Lock plate of some kind?????

I found this today and just cant quite figure out exaclty what it is. Im thinking some kind of lock on a trunk or box?? it hit as nickle but not sure the type of metal. any ideas? time period? i found on a bank of a bayou that runs along a roadway around a neghborhhood that has 90 yr old homes.

it would have to be the tiniest rod ever to fit in that hole. center hole isnt that much bigger than those screw holes or rivet holes. im guessing too

It's got that skeleton key shape kind of. So it could be a lock to anything Just wanna those things. I live finding them!!

When I was kid I used to delight in pulling the cord sharply on those spring loaded shades and watching them wack wack wack the wall when they reached the top and continued to roll up.
