Hey everyone, What's up. Well The weather is finally starting to kick up. It was nice to hunt in warm weather again.

Hit a few sites over the weekend. One was a log cabin demo site. I hit it in the past before and found some flat buttons a Indian and some relics and such.

About a month ago I tried to hit it and the ground was like a brick. I was getting some good signals but just couldn't get to them.

I decided it was time to go back and check it out. They had moved alot more dirt around and I figured some stuff would turn up.

Me and my brother got to the site Saturday and about 15 minutes into the hunt I dug a holed matron head. It was a good 10 to 12 inches deep. The soil is compressed very tightly from all the dozer's.

I called my brother over to see it and also to show him the depth. I don't over exaggerate depth either.

Most large cents I have found have been really deep and in the clay part of the soil. The last 3 I have dug all had holes though. This was my 8th one of the year. The early silver keeps eluding me though.

Picked up a badly beat merc and a Roosevelt. Soil is really ruff at this spot.

I also found another site with a bunch of really old cellar holes. Bad part was it is part of someone's yard. I knocked no answer. I came back no answer again. No one was home.

I'll put it one ice for a future hunt maybe. Sunday was a strike out day. Tested a few spots but only came up with some relics.

I also found a really nice hammer to a gun. It looks real not a toy piece. It's crafted to well and is really smooth and durable. I don't know the type of gun it came from but it looks old.

Also found a really weird salt shaker in a dump site in the woods. I was looking for a cellar hole came across the bottle dump and found it. Looks to be made of porcelin. Has a bunch of holes on the back side for the salt to come out.

We had a good time though. Hope to come up with some better sites and finds here soon.

HH Jeremy

Nice Finds That Salt is nice .....and in really good shape ! WTG

Nice digs. It's great to be out in the warm weather again and not need a jackhammer to retreive a find. I hope you can get permission to hunt the other sites you found.
Good luck to you. HH!

Sorry you didn't find much. Nice relics though.

GL & HH,

DugHoles

P.S. What is the exact definition of cellar holes. Is it the space that was or would be the "cellar" or is it a hole in a cellar for whatever? :)

Jer,

Looks like you had a good day. Lots of spoons too! I've yet to find any kitchen utensils.

Keep up the finds and thanks for the post,
Smartin

Great relics Jer! Tsgman

Nice stuff as usual, Jer. That new coil must be working well for you. I probably will be getting one before the end of summer.

Really good stuff you found Jeremy!! And that's a neat looking spoon too!

Congrats and keep 'em coming!

The Large Cent is cool. Even in it's shabby shape. At least it is clear what it is.

Thanks alot for all the replies everyone. It's getting hard to find the really old stuff here in the city.

You go anywhere outside of the city and it's in a abundance. Like out in the country. I like looking for colonial stuff the most. But all the woods and lands are being built up around here.

I have to drive out on the edges of the county just to find enough woods to search for it.

You can always find late 1800's and up stuff in the city. But I really like the pre 1850 finds.

The large cent was beat up. But like you said Mirage at least I could still see what it was. There wasn't even a trace of a date on this one. Plus the back is so green you can't make out anything. Grounds weren't good at this spot. It was farm land and probably fertilized to death.

My son found the twisted looking spoon. He always picks up something.

Lisa, You would like the coil alot I think. I know the type of sites your hunting. It would work very well for those sites. Like fields and cellar holes. It goes deep gets alot of coverage.

I haven't took it off my machine since Christmas when I got it. So all the stuff you have seen from me over the past 3 months or so all have come from this coil.

Good luck everyone. Research is our key to sucess. I need to get to the library and pull some books.

Hey Jer,

I forgot to mention about the round balls in one of your pics. These are marbles, I found one not long ago, here's something I found out about them:

Clay and bennington marbles were produced by the millions, in both Germany and the United States, during the late 1800's and early 1900's. They were easy and cheap to produce, not requiring the technical knowledge or skill of glass marbles. The first marbles produced in the United States were clay marbles and the first marble-related U.S. patents are for devices that "mass produce" clay marbles.

Just a note, I think they're preaty cool to find while dig'n other things!

Thanks bigrig and smartin. I think some of the clay one's I find are actually made by some of the civilians at those times.

I heard you could find some clay and bake them on a tray. I have found some to be so unperfect that I don't think a company would put out.

I always pick them up. I like the glass one's better. But I did find a very strange dark green clay one once. Most are orange tan or white.

Awesome finds! Looks like you had a GREAT time. Good luck on your next hunt!
