looking for gold in Oleasn Ny

we are in Olean Ny this weekend and was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to go panning for gold. we also have a metal detector we would like to try out. we are new to all this but it is something my pop has wanted to do all his life. any suggestions on where to go would be great and any thing you can help would be appreciated. thank you

Well,,, seems you can pan till your arms fall off but anything you find belongs to NY.

Gold in New York State. Panning and Prospecting for Placer Gold

I do not know about any gold ore in your state, but there are many ghost towns, you may want to search. Good luck and keep in touch.

Sorry, the only gold in New York is micro glacial gold. You'll have much better luck metal detecting for old gold and silver coins. Good Luck!
