Very nice.

It’s a Modèle 1874 bayonet, designed for use with the Fusil Modèle 1874 (also known as the Gras rifle). It was the primary service rifle in France from 1874-1886. Government bayonets are marked on the blade spine with the factory, month, and year of production. Yours was made in the State arms factory at Saint-Étienne in east-central France (one of four, the others being Châtellerault, Mutzig and Tulle… plus a number of private contractors). The year of manufacture is 1878, as it says, but I can't read the month clearly. Is it 'Juil' for Juillet (July)?.
