Found this while I was scouting for my elk hunt this week, in the same area I have been finding my points. (sorry, no insitu pic. I wasn't carring my phone, don't want to spook any animals!) It is very smooth on one side, and rough on the other as you can see in the pics. I believe it is made of quartzite, with some iron staining.(the brown streaks) Could this be a mano? There are quite a few boulders that had been used as mortars in this area , a few of which have shown up in my pics when I artifact hunt. Maybe it is just a stream worn rock? It's awfully round! Let me know what you guys think?

I would say it's just a rock. In the 4th pic it looks like there's some kind of groove but can't say with certainty.

That is one of those things you have to decide for yourself. Questions I would ask is....are there any others like it in the area you hunt, why is it smooth on 1 side but not the other, did they have stones for hides, did they use stones to help with making pottery and so on. If I find a stone in a camp site that doesnt look like the others I will bring it home especially if it looks to of been used for something.

Looks natural. Was it found near water, it could be smooth on one side only because for decades it could have had moving water flowing over one side only as it sat on the bottom..
