Looking for material traces of roman antiquity to the south part of areas searched and presented in posts "Ancient traces of an old road" Part 1 to Part 4, on the approximate alignment of the north-eastern limes, against the background of massive metal contamination in WW2, some evidence of the roman presence has appeared (2nd-3rd centuries AD), but also from other historical periods : iron knife with sleeve, iron knife blade, 2 iron keys, different iron nails, 3 lead projectiles (balls), 2 fragments of a dagger sheath, a semi-round one from the sheath of a sword and a sharp one from the sheath of a dagger, iron chisel, 9 iron hobnails from the sole of roman sandal-boots (caligae), roman iron arrowhead (ballista bolts), possible multifunctional iron tool with 2 elements (fragmentary), a roman bronze brooch (fragmentary) and an object that was very rarely discovered, iron spur with conical spin and lateral buttons. Certainly this was lost by a soldier from the auxiliary troops, of the Roman cavalry unit Ala I Numeri Illyricorum, which was stationed a few kilometers away and which controlled the entire military area under the roman administration. At some distance, a few years ago, I found another such spike, but bronze.
Enjoy !
