I have been intending on searching for this site that is in my own back yard for quite some time. :P After being stuck in the house with a cold over the weekend I decided to work on this one. Mapped and re-mapped.....new map, old map....Google Earth and old map overlay. It's an old wagon trail with a few old homesteads noted on the 1892 map. I finally got out there this afternoon. DiggerBug was on her way out and I flagged her down to see the buckle I had just found. Figured it would speed up her errands and she would get back in time to dig a few holes! :D (It worked!) :D Found lots of neat stuff including the back to a button....well...guess it's the back to a button. The shank is broken and it reads rich gold and then something else on the bottom that I can't read yet. Also there is this tool looking thingy..has what looks like a little wrench on one end and then on the other end it looks like a big needle. ??? The buckle is my favorite find of the day...I think it's the best one I have found so far. I didn't take a picture of the pasture today, but here's one from last fall.

Nana :)

Nice start,Nana. I'd go over that area thoroughly if I had access to it. Could that be a finger ring below the eye of the needle? Check it out. Might be some engraving on it.

That is a nice buckle Nana! Nice place to hunt.

Nice digs. Beautiful scenery, and in your own back yard. Can't beat it

Sorry you've been sick. Glad you were able to get out and detect.

That is a fantastic buckle!!! WTG

The needle thingy might be just that. Maybe a needle for lacing a leather thong through a leather pouch or saddlebag or some other leather item. Without a closeup, that'd be my guess.

Nice bunch of finds.

Thank you. :)

That picture is a bit misleading, I guess. That ring looking thing is almost big enough to go around my wrist. :P Here is a better one of the what's it.

Thanks again ya'll. Nana :)

Welcome Sherm. ;)

Nana, thanks for the closeup of the whatsit. Now that I see it's over 12" long and it has a knobby end, I have to say I have no idea what it is. It's amazing how much images change when given a point of reference. Something to keep in mind when analyzing the nightly news, I think. ;)

The pasture is beautiful. I would search that site as often as I could. Belt buckle is cool too. Nice finds

Nice going Nana! All I've been able to do lately is one Old Timer pocket knife and a bunch of property markers. :'(

Nice pics Nana and great finds! Love digging and seeing those relics... great job!

Hi Nana, I'm glad you're feeling better and out digging!
Beautiful area! Neat artifacts! ;)
Take care,
D.

What a beautiful decorative buckle Nana.

I think the whatsit is a grounding stake for a lightning rod's wire. The rod would be mounted to the chimney and the attached wire would be attached to the loop end and the stake driven into the ground.

Looks like a great site. That buckle looks very old.

Way cool, Nana! Glad you're over the cold and up and about.

Wishin' it was warmer here, and I gotta admit it, envious of that great view you have!

Gotta love those relics! Nice finds. The whatsit could be an old tractor part. The buckle looks like a suspender buckle. :)

im leaning toward a garter buckle ::) :D ;D nice score ;)

Nice job Nana!! Love those old relics too. I could just see Digger scurrying along in the grocery store hardly remembering what she went for! Gotta get back.....gotta get back!!

Moon
