Looks like a chevron, any ideas?

Dug this up today. Looks like a chevron to me. Corner crumbled off revealing gilt underneath. Has a raised dotted border. Looks like the core is copper. Any ideas?

I would say the corner of a frame buckle. Age?? hard to say.
