I don't really understand how you are going to use a detector for this, or why you would want to. Unless maybe it's hidden behind a wall but it doesn't sound like that is the case.

With about a half million roof floor and wall nails copper wires and pipe electric on or off makes no difference use your eyes you got a better chance .Good luck Dd60

The owner forgot where he put it. The Colt could be under a floorboard in the attic or under earth in the cellar. I wsed a simular Cold but am not getting a clear defined signal. The Minelabs Explorer can be set up to not pick up small nails and the such and the sensativity also regulated. My question is do any of you gents have experience with this type of search for large ferris metal objects hidden in a house? If so how do you recommend I set up the machine?
Thanks Mickey

Full Disc should not block out a Firearm,
However I Would set it at Nickels.

you should then disc out most nails

IF You have a Sunray Probe

& Can remove the Control Box from the
Rods.

thread the Probe direct to the control Box

example
Picture 007.webp

You could then hold the Control box
in the air & Reach into Crawl spaces etc
while still Discriminating

OH & yes to your Question
if Possable Shut off the power.
Can't hurt

it is likely that a colt 45 would be high carbon steel not just iron therefore you might get a weak or negative response in All Metal Mode unless you compensate by setting the Gb to accept that kind of metal, a bit like Ground balancing in high negative ground, or if using the disc mode then you may have to use low disc maybe not much higher than foil. You will have to look for broard strong or weak signals.

You could also use a vlf machine with manual ground balance like a Scorpion, Gb outside over the ground and then go inside and search for any signals that are wide and drive the threshold negative (S/S and high carbon steel) but also check any wide positive signals as well
