Thanks for all the replies!
My honey bought this coin from her brother to give to me for my Birthday
I may have it slabbed, but the coins i find are more sentimental to me than what
they are worth.
I don't figure it will go down in value!
Every coin i find takes me back in time, wondering what life was like back then
and who the person was that lost it.
Even though i didn;t find this coin,it is very special to me,and i will cherish it
throughout my life.

Again,i appreciate the replies and comments, and wish you all,the best of luck!

I recently posted a topic in whats it worth on my brother-in-law finding
an 1870 seated liberty dollar.
its actually in better shape than the scanned photos,
weve been trying to figure out what it is worth,
since he needs the money badly.
from what ive seen in blue books and red books it starts at $400 to $600.
and goes up to$80.000.
there were 11,758 minted 1870 CC
looked on e-bayalready too, gonna take it and have it graded in springfield,mo maybe next weekend.
what are some of your opinions?
you guys are the real experts in my book.

Added a few more pics;I found out i could hold a jewelers lens to my camera lens and get closeups.

Out of all the silver coins the seated dollar is my favorite coin. Thought about a tatoo
of the seated design. I would send it in for grading. I feel if you list it on ebay you will
get more bids being certified and geniune. I myself will not buy a raw coin from ebay unless its a steel. You
can set your starting price or reserve, this way your getting what you think is fair, or you can chance
it and let the market decide.

I have to tell ya that is a rare find,I recently did a poll on another site of top notch detectorists on how many of them had dug one.......no one had dug one.You just dont hear about them because they arent dug very often.I have been hunting for one for a long time, that day has not come yet.I cant tell you what its worth though

Wow!!! I guess i never saw the original post. Was that coin found by your brother-in-law from around here?(SWMO)

I'd give the coin a VG-8 Obverse AND Fine-12 Reverse.
Whatever the grade turns out to be, you have a fantastic, rare coin.

Nice seated he found. Great job on finding one of those. Can't help you on the grading

Very nice indeed!

You mentioned going to Springfield, MO to get it graded ... are you just going to a coinshop for their opinion? I'm not familiar with any reputable grading services there.

The coin is a VG-8 realistically based on the obverse wear, but would probably garner an F-12 from PCGS, NGC or ANACS (the only three I'd recommend for certification and grading). They have a tendency to be "grade-lenient" on rarities and key dates. With that grade in a PCGS holder you could expect $800-$900.
