today i found a piece of a iron pot,a fragile piece of copper that looks like it is threaded inside, maybe some sort of cap.then a large piece of lead that looks like a fishing weight. but there is no sign of a place to tie your line.
did the early settlers buy lead like this one on the right?

Jrwill, I envy you getting out1 The large piece of lead is a spill. You notice the bump; that is where the lead first hit the ground and then puddled out from there. Don't know about the object on the right. Is it flat? If so it is probably the end of a pewter spoon handle.

The lead looks like some of the hundreds of pieces of scrap lead I find in UK fields. Looks like they have cut pieces off it to use for any number of reasons & this may have had a use or was just a piece of 'cut off' which could have been re-melted but was lost or chucked.

Hello,
Your piece of lead on the right, if it has a small hole in the top, could be a "pull down" from an early tall case clock. 30 hour brass and wood works clocks were wound in this fashion, only 8-day tall cases were wound by keys.
