did a trail hunt in Woodstock, NY with FMERG today. we both got close to diddly squat--- except I IMG_1491.webpIMG_1492.webp got the Merc an inch down ---then the coil passes over the tag. got home and called the owner, and Harvey is still kickin'. they had it made years ago and Harvey gets his tag back when I meet his human guardian on Tuesday. I am feelin' real good about this one. also got another $4 in clad back at the pounded park.:happy11::happy3:

very cool that you've tracked down the owner!, they should be thrilled to have it back!

That Merc is looking mint! Congrats!!

this looks like it should be a honorable mention
ok just looked up what needed to be done to put this post in for honorable mention
so on Tuesday i will join Rich and take pictures of him returning it
to bad we don't have a quick link button to the Honorable mention forum

Good work, nice return!

Sweet looking dime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome Merc, I still need to find my first silver coin in the ground lol. Have a good one, Zach.

I've never seen a Merc come out of the ground looking that good :icon_scratch: What type of soil did it come out of and how do you clean your coins?

virgin NY forest soil with major pine trees. 2 inches down, cleaned with gentle 10 second finger rub of wet baking soda to remove dirt. the clad came out like all clad----yucky stained. the merc still has mint luster and is likely EF-AU range. should sell for about $4- $5 on feebay

here is a picture of rich returning the tag to Harvey and his owner

That Merc is a great reward for your duties.

just want to clarify, I am the short old guy with 2 legs and the dark shirt. what an amazing feeling to meet Harvey,a great dog and his great guardian Kevin and re-unite them with a lost item from 10 years past. Kevin offered and I humbly accepted a very nice finders gratuity. still get a fuzzy feeling thinking about this encounter. a super salute to FMERG for taking the time to shoot the photo.

Not trying to give you a hard time but I am genuinely curious: What was so special about the tag? Why did the owner want it back?

Harvey the dog has a thing about losing tags and then they reappear a few years later

plus his family loves him dearly, the tag was made when he was a pup, then lost about 10 years ago. he is now 12 and will be gone soon due to health. love is all over his owner's face when talking about his companion, and I was deeply moved by this encounter. a target I will never forget about.

Very cool. Thanks for the additional info. Great post!
