I've been trying to think up a way to be able to work offshore farther at my sites. So I made up this rig. ;D It worked great for me today as I took a full size shovel & added it to my digging gear today. It would sit there & sift it self purdy much with the wave action. Anyway took it to one of my older sites & put it to the test.Came up with a few early finds. Two complete Rat tail pewter spoons very large & heavy (not sure why they bent them up like they did. :icon_scratch: Some early musket balls/shot,pewter button & two others,my new tinyest buckle, teeth,& some kind of coin/token :dontknow: :icon_scratch: I see what looks like a bull's/buffalo head with horns on one side.I'm going to work on it for sure cause it's got me curious for sure as this site is very old it came from.
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:

Yea it worked good for me,just need two people to work it well if you don't have a underwater machine. I can't tell you how many times I ask the wife have you got it...........don't drop it........ don't let that part get wet. :laughing7: ;D :D Think I'd been sick to have watched it go bloop. :'( :( But with a water machine see no problem with one person working it all.

Small observation; those cut cable ties can stratch you up, so best turning them away from the outer edges :icon_thumright:

Very ingenious Pete! :icon_thumright:

I really like these pewter spoons! :notworthy:

Are they something you'd consider getting restored?
Or might you consider selling them to someone that would like to get them restored?

Thanks,
Dave

Great work on the equipment and finds!!
I want to make something like that, I hate bringing that shovelful to shore only to find the target not there,(or worse, slipped out of the pile on the way to shore) then trying to find the hole in muddy water.
Interesting Early Pewter :icon_scratch:
I find some round pieces like that too, some show attachment points on back.
great Post! HH to ya!

Those spoons are rare to find intact, at least for me..
I have dozens of broken ones, one almost intact,
Man, that one on the left is folded up tight :icon_scratch:

I gotcha.Don't know of any large amounts of animals anywhere near where I'm at.Only thing pissing in this water is me. :laughing7: But fileing down the edegs of the the zip ties is not no biggie. I think & not to say it can't happen as I've had fish pioson many times over the years but in a far more different setting then this.Chances are rare to begin with. But to be totally honest if I had to worry about a scratch everytime down the river I may as well stay home. I had thought about putting them to the inside but changed my mine as I wanted things to dump out easy and not hang up.Besides even how it is now it wouldn't go through no shorts,& as I'm not down the river in speedos :-* :D
(Just having fun with ya Cru,Thanks for your thought's Man)

Thanks Antiquarian,
Yea as Herbie said these spoons this old don't turn up very often (for me either).Just to show you what I mean they have only found parts of them on things like ship wecks,(Queen Anne's Revenge link below  ) These are the two best I've found. As you can see in pics. below. Not sure how you could restore something like it really :icon_scratch: Nor do I know why one would want to as to me it would be taking it out of context to do so.But with that said I'll keep you in mine if I deside to loose interest in one of them.

Those are some great finds you have. I am going in the water with the ATPro. I hope it holds up in the light surf. Probably not going over the knees. I'm not skilled enough to go chest deep. And as always I am taking a backup detector incase the ATPro acts up. Hopefully it won't.

Yea I've been in commercial fishing for all my life. From flounder fishing, scolloping, shrimping, fly netting, crab potting, purdy much done it all, so I know. I think the worst times are in the eyes from flapping fish or shaking nets & being on boats in the past with no AC & having to try & sleep sweating to death in the bunk as the burn never goes away the more you sweat the more your gonna burn. >:( But that's life not always a bed of roses for some.

Not as fast, but twist the tie off instead of cutting. No sharp edge.
