I was thinking some of you might find some interest in this. I was just at the local grocery store and as always I stop by the magazine stand and flip through a few. They carry issues of the magazine Archaeology. I glanced through the pages and saw the latest issue has an article on Native American banner stones. Heck you can read some of it online.

It is a nice article with some very interesting points on the uses of Bannerstones. I had never heard of the huge ones made in the Savanah River Valley refered to as Hypertrophic. It's interesting to hear that someone actually used these when using an AtlAtl and they actually made his performance worse instead of improving it. They did however make it easier to balance the Spear for longer periods of time which would aid in stalking prey with the weapon at the ready and cause less strain on their arms.

Great article with some spectacular examples shown.
