Hey fellas,

Quick question for you. I found a half yesterday that weighs right about 1 gram more than the others, roughly 12.3. It also has a different "ring" to it when dropped on the table. I tried shaking it in a glass jar (too vigorously--broke the jar) to no avail, threw it around the bathroom and the kitchen tile, also to no avail. Anyone have any other suggestions on how to crack it open? Or if it even is a magicians coin?

Thanks!

The magician coin will sound hollow. If you look with a magnifying glass on the reverse right on the edge you should see where the coin has a seam for lack of a better term.

I drop mine on the ceramic floor here at home and after a few times it ususally pops open. Some are harder than other to open. You may have to 'drop' it harder if it doesn't pop open after a few times.

Good luck.

Hey Modell, How's it going?

When you flip the coin over does the Obverse and Reverse line up or are they rotated?

That should be a dead give away if it is a "pieced" together coin.

Let us know.

put it in the freezer for awhile, the 2 metals will react differently to the cold. when you drop the cold coin it will pop open, Jim

Great idea Jim!!! Never thought of that. Not only possess wit, but smarts too......

Thanks for the replies all. Into the freezer it went! We'll see how it turns out. As far as dropping it on the floor...I was throwing it! It now has several flat sides. Ill let ya'll know how it goes!

Watch this turn out to be a metallurgy related error from the mint and OP's just keeps lowering it's value. LOL
