Today I took advantage of a break in the weather. With the the warm weather and heavy rain it has opened up a little shoreline. The area I was scoping out is close to a fish weir. After walking around muttering to myself for a couple hours.Telling myself this fish weir was used over thousands of years you'd think I could find some kind of tool.Well I did! It is my smallest hard stone gouge just a little over 4"........mjm IMG_20141228_142621_575.webp

That's a nice one. Wish we had them around here.

Thanks SCrocks! There are definetly plenty around here. You gotta love them.I'm hoping to find an axe.Wooden stakes from this weir show they were sharpened both by gouges and axes.So I figure maybe this area holds an axe for me.......mjm

That's a nice one. You are the Gouge Man for sure.

Good find :icon_thumright:- and amazing you were able to hunt- crazy weather! HH! Yakker

Nice find, have you found any ground slate points?

Drool, drool, can I, can I have them? lol. Wow, just finished the book in the picture, now of extreme interest to me. Little known phase but what artifacts they produced. Your lucky to be able to search for it. I believe your gouge is the last sequence. Please keep us informed.

I do feel very lucky to be able to find artifacts associated with the red 1014131534.webp[]paint people. This gouge was found on the site of the sebasticook lake fish weir.It is the newest addition to my quickly growing gouge collection. So what did you think of the book.Bourque is my go to guy when I got questions...He ided my white slate point for me by pictures on line.He has a couple in his book....mjm

Thanks yakker I think I might get out today. With temperatures in the twenties and the wind off the lake it will be a short hunt. But this is the first time that I have had the opportunity to hunt this side of the fish weir site.It will be completely submerged in the spring....mjm

Hope you find something or 2 great things. We got 7.5 inches of rain this week the creeks are ragging and calling my name.

I found the book a great read, well written and logically presented. In the beginning I wondered how he would support his arguments but he did adequately. Really peaked my interest of a little known but unique culture.

Very Cool Finds! Would love to find one of them. :icon_thumright:
