Long bow, recurve, take down? Do you want to laminate the limbs? What poundage will you be desiring and at what draw length? Perhaps the easiest entry level "hunting bow" is the red oak bow which you can find here: How to make a red oak board bow

These are inexpensive bows that you can make with only a few basic tools and easily had supplies. I made two of these last year and I'm just now considering making another one. The other thing you will want to prepare is a tillering stand/post that you can also investigate on youtube as there are several different, yet basic and easily made, applications. I would strongly suggest that you start here so you can then decide if you want to get into something more complicated and more costly. :icon_thumright:

Using the same "red oak" concept, here's a take down model that I started last year but have yet to finish. The riser is laminated with red oak, poplar & ash. The limbs are fiberglass backed red oak. Still have a long way to go on this one. Just one of those unfinished "time killers" that I may never get around to completing. :laughing7: (not very good pictures) I think you can click on them to enlarge them?

Nice idea... try reasrsrching the local wood that was used.I've never made a bow but I work with wood.start with a good green piece.

Youtube has a number of good video on bow's...

I have ....many,and it can be a very frustrating process...dont get too attached to em until you know they wont break....it will happen. The reward of having one pass the test and then actually taking an animal with it is undescribable

You can buy a kit from 3 Rivers Archery in Ashley, Indiana. Do a google search for their web site. I've dealt with them numerous times in the past and they are awesome to work with.

He is the kind of Guy that is probably going to go out in the woods and chop a branch with a stone blade and use a spokeshave and abraider on it.
