If you've ever been stuck having to buy something with a $50 or $100 bill in the last decade, you have probably had to stand there while a store clerk performs the marker test to see if the note is legitimate. Unfortunately, that test doesn't work on older bills, and that's how a Tennessee man ended up in jail over the weekend.After a $50 bill didn't pass muster at a Shelbyville-area convenience store, the clerk notified police, who then arrested the man attempting to use it as legal tender.

it happens. wouldn't be anyone's fault. the marker doesn't work on some older bills. understandable to me.
I would be ticked, but I would understand--but I sure would be grumbling lol

in my opinion there is no legit excuse.

You work in a place that accepts money, or you work in law enforcement,
there is no room for errors.

Both the store employee & Police officer who made the arrest should be on
the unemployment line.

The bank should have been contacted first,
not after

employee. are ya kidding? probably a 18 year old in a first job. probably never saw a 50
if you go by what you said then about 90% of all employees gotta be fired. or trained, but training doesn't usually work either HAHA

BUT you are right tho that bank should have been contacted. BUT while contacting bank you got to put the suspect somewhere. holding cell seems right to me.

there is always room for error. happens every single second in everyday life.

sorry, you do not put innocent people in cells.

I Do not like Lawyers,
but would personally try for a lawsuit, if arrested for a non crime.
do NOT put cuffs on me or put me in a cell & Expect to get away with an Ooops.

yea they do put innocent people in jail UNTIL it is proven they are not being charged. it is called holding a suspect

With the new laws that were recently passed, you can be held indefinitely with even being charged, if they so desire. Puts a whole new spin on the judicial system. rockhound

I'm amazed that no one noticed that it was an old issue bill. And too, why would someone instantly go to jail for this? The proper order is a police report is made and the person in question is to appear before a judge. This is not at all an unusual happening; lots of innocent people get bogus bills. This happens every day in many locations.

This whole story is very suspicious.
