Mass beaches

Im sure this has been asked here before, but any help sure would be appreciated. Me and the wife plan on coming over to vacation this year, and was wondering about the law on detecting beaches there. Is it legal everywhere? Is it a beach to beach basis? ect. ect.

As far as I'm aware, as long as you avoid the federal* areas--most of Plum Island and that big stretch of National Seashore (where a lot of the wreck stuff would wash ashore) on Cape Cod, for instance--you're good to go. But, you may have trouble finding legal (non-resident) parking in some areas. (Keeps the riff raff away, I suppose.)

*(Kind of, er, funny that what belongs to all the People is what is most restricted, eh?)

Yea, its a shame how places do that. Hopefully i can find some decent areas, im looking forward to running over there and trying my hand at the beaches. Not all of cape cod is off limits is it?

From what i've read in this forum the entire eastern side is but thats pretty much it. theres a few spots that even have signs that do not allow metal detectors.
