After he had been turned and digging for a bit. It was then that the physically interactive Creolean noticed the large gun in his belt.

The shouting match between myself and this stinky Caribeaner was escalating along quite nicely into hand grapplinig shows of machismo intent. He wanted to know why I was doing what I was doing, and claimed to be "investigating" something along with his pals. It was clear they had only been investigating gravity's effect on upturned booze bottles while trying to find targets of opportunity.

They left immediately. Mayo can fill you in on the gun he found just prior to that I hope. I think he said something about hitting the bank on his way home....

I did get a pretty 1900 IH and a very plain old button with some silver gilt intact, pics coming.

Nothing like Greco Roman knuckle wrestling with a stinky wine-drenched knucklehead!

Plenty of loony tunes out there - I'm surprised there aren't more close encounters than there are.

Sounds like that guy needed a little pepper spray on his burrito. :)

What's with people finding theses guns??? lol But, better us than "them".

Yea they are fun to deal with... :-\ Some punk whipped a bottle at me and tried to steal my Minelab SE at Washington Park 2 years ago. Always be mindfull of your surroundings, that's why I mostly hunt with 1 earphone off. :tongue3:

We were hunting a wooded area of a park that we have been to numerous times in the past - just not in this section of the woods. As per usual, we meandered all over, following deer trails, no trails, and entrails. Well, feathers anyways. Seems the local coyotes have been feasting on waterfowl.

Tim got his nice looking Indian head penny, I got an assortment of relics and junk, a couple surface or near surface modern clad coins here and there. Total coinage was 9 memorials, 2 dimes, 3 quarters and 2 wheat pennies. Also got a cool old Elgin Cycle Co pin (missing the back pin) and parts of a flat spoon that could have been a butter server. When I brushed the dirt off it in the field, the tip of it flew off into oblivion. It's a strange brittle metal - pewter maybe? And I got a 1968 rabies vaccination tag - maybe some hippie was in the woods with his or her dog lookin for a love in. Sock it to me. Oh yeah and part of a formerly big saw blade.

The largest and perhaps most effective find for me was the gun pictured below.
Some time after finding it (I had it tucked into my goodie apron with mostly just the butt end of it visible) we were detecting a different area with the aforementioned Creole speaking bystanders about 150 yards away. Well one of the more adventurous of these guys made it a point to come over and loudly converse with Tim - in a seemingly jovial manner - and decided to help out by putting some coin on the ground and asking Tim if he could find it... Well things started getting more loud and although there was laughing going on by both I couldn't tell if it was in good fun or the kind of laughing people make when they're nervous just before something bad is gonna happen.

I was about 100 feet away but I was facing them from time to time and I guess the last time I was looking in their direction, Mr Creole must have seen the gun at my waist because the next thing I knew, he left quicker than he arrived and all his buddies in two cars took off as well.

Maybe I'll carry this thing with me on more hunts ;D

I didn't hit any banks on the way home unless you count the "bank" next to the flooded area behind the dirt piles I had to check out after lunch. The dirt piles were not fruitful this time but I have confidence that as they take from and add to them, I'll get some goodies.

I'm just happy to find one of those little CJ guns :D

But you're right. . . a lot of weirds out there just aikin' for trouble.

Your cycle fob is very cool

Nice variety of finds, Mayo. I've had people throw coins on the ground toward me too. It's really obnoxious. I think the particular group of people you ran into were just mad that they lost the Jamaican bobsled run.

Joe

That's a really cool pin. Those guys made bikes in the 1800's!

glad your gun came in handy... Nice finds. This must be the weekend for 1919-s cuz I found 2. Is dropping coins kind of like dropping soap? That has not happened to me yet and I hope it never does.

No, dropping coins is a way of seeing how you focus in a staredown. If you want to catch someone off guard and understand the rules of engagement mean misdirection. But eh, it wasn't as bad as our find today in my mind. BTW, here's the IH I got and that plain old button.

Thanks T-guy, there's Indians-a-aplenty out there, but I have as hard as time as ever finding them myself. I'd be happy just to figure out how to photo them a little, no, a lot better!

Does this story start in the middle?
I'm lost.

Ok, I think I see where it begins. Cool story and I'm glad you had the 'piece'

Nice Indian, Tim. Don't feel too bad about having a hard time finding them, I assure you I have an even harder time. I haven't been hunting real old area slately, maybe that's why. But even when I do, I still typically end up IHless.

Joe

SORT OF LIKE HOLDING UP YER LEFT FIST FOR THEM TO "WATCH" WHILE SMACKING THEM WITH A RIGHT . ;D
