I did a water hunt last weekend. Saturday they were having a Triathlon so I went to the other side of the lake and realized they used the whole perimeter of the lake for the swimming event.

I went back Sunday. This was more like it, a rainy day and nobody there. I detected in the water for about 4 hours. Took a break and sat in a lounge chair for about ten minutes in a down pour of rain, first time I have ever done that, LOL.

Finds from the lake. Around $7.00 in mixed currency change, three silver rings, a junk bracelet and some fishing tackle.

I need to get one of these, a wood splitter omatic. Just put the meter length logs in the carriage and it cuts the wood to length and splits it. Unfortunately it is huge, LOL!

Our town was invited to a medieval festival Saturday. We attacked their town in our medieval attire and weaponry. This re-enactment of the battle was narrated by a local Historian who studies medieval history of the area as a hobby and has studied some of the earliest archives available, he does an awesome job. We would fight for about two minutes then the narrator would tell more of the story, the breaks in fighting represented the days it took to break through the army and siege the castle, which we burned. This was really a great time learning and seeing how things were done in the medieval days and combining the history with detecting is awesome! I will admit I am a little sore today after the battle. The helmet weighs about 3 pounds and the sword about 5 pounds and I wore the uniform for 7 hours. I took a battle axe hit to the shoulder and have a painful gash where it hit. There were too many people on the small battle field and afterwards I thought about how dangerous this really was, LOL. Our town’s 1000 year festival is next weekend, that should be a lot of fun. That is me on the left with the sword.

One of the medieval camps set up around town with a small band and dancer. In the middle is our narrator telling a story.

A catapult that launched softball sized rocks. The castle, a wooden tower in the background was set fire by catapult launching flaming balls. Part of the battle field is in front of the castle. Being a participant I did not get many pictures. HH, Mike

Very cool finds, and a very cool post about the battle! I don't think you're supposed to come home wounded, though... ouch!

Is the reenactment something the towns do every year? It looks as if you all had a whopping good time, wounds and all.

Lots of Beer I'm sure ;D Nice finds. I bet that water hunting is much tougher than dry land

Pretty neat, Mike!

How's the hunting in that park? :)

Not bad with the water finds. You should have seen my pitiful "water" finds. :-[

Yeah, you usually don't get wounded in a reenactment! :D

OH gosh! :D Hope you're OK! :P Looks like a great time, though. And that looks like a great site to hunt too! :icon_pirat:

Fantastic pictures, Mike! Great to hear from you! Congrats on the finds~

Thanks all! Yes, there were a few beers involved at the medieval festival. Re-enactments and medieval festivals are usually held when town's have birthdays of nice round numbers like 650 years, 1000 years but they common throughout Europe. I do not usually detect the park area, too many pulltabs and junk for this relic hunter. The fields are all planted and I missed the winter wheat harvest so I detect these areas just for something to do and patiently wait for the harvest to start, LOL. A friend and I did find a plowed field Sunday, yes I went detecting after taking two aspirins. The field is about 150 meters from where a castle stood and was sieged in the 1500s, I thought we would find some awesome relics but the best was a musket ball for me and my friend found a musket ball with an iron core fired from a hook gun, hook guns where fired from the castle wall and the hook went over the edge to absorb the recoil as it was a big gun, like a shoulder fired cannon, the musket ball is about 1" in diameter. I went and bought a replica medieval sword yesterday for the festival this weekend, should be here by Thursday. The sword I used last weekend belongs to the historical society, long story but I will probably not be able to use it this coming weekend and I do enjoy the medieval acting. Being in the Historical Society is really a safe haven for me as a detector, the whole town backs me up from the Mayor on down, that is about the best support anyone can have these days. HH, Mike
