Melbourne beach is packing it on thick with some pics

They packed it on thick last time, and it was swept away by nature.
I sure hope thay do the same type of procedure in Indian river county - NOT GONNA HAPPEN THAT WAY DOWN THEIR FOR SURE.
Would be nice though.
No metal detecting within 3000 yards from the center of the wreck. I say move the dredge boat 3003 yards away( just to be safe from the law),and start operations. Hahahahahahhahahahh.

Could you tell me what areas have been restored so far? I am trying to choose between two beach hotels and would like to get out and hunt a couple of days. Anything been found in the new pumped sand? I know when we get renourishment farther north the new sand has been void of anything good. Not sure if that is because of a screening process the dredging companies use or the area being dredged. Would like to hunt the "older" sand.

I just spent a month (Jan 2014) at Melbourne beach and MDed from south of Vero beach to Cocoa beach and it ALL SUCKED! The new sand is from [canaveral shoals - correction] up north and NOT dredged from the bottom off Melbourne Beach. They are shipping in the sand from up north and have a large (3-4 ft) pipe from shore to the delivery ship - the ship is NOT dredging the sand from its location about 1/2 mile (?) off shore, as seen in one photo. I talked with a worker at the replenishment site who conveyed this info. This has destroyed MDing in the area until at least next summer when beach goers replenish with finds. As of Feb 2014, they have not reached Cocoa beach, yet, but will soon. Strongly suggest going further south of Ft Pierce. Also, FYI, surf in the Melbourne Beach area is rough and with frequent rip tides you can't MD the water, at least not this time of year. Heard surf is quieter during the summer and would be a GREAT place to MD underwater. Also, there are Spanish coins washing ashore in the Indialantic area, but here again the new sand is making it more difficult to find much in these parts of Florida. It will be better next year, I hope. Good Luck

This article conflicts with the workers story about the sand origin.
Both of the places I am thinking about staying at are north of Flug Ave. in Indiatlantic. I know how this sand travels, but shouldn't it be ok hunting south of Patrick AFB and north of Paradise beach park? Can anyone confirm any start and stop points for the fill?

North Reach - Cape Canaveral / Cocoa Beach

The US Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company (GLDD) to renourish 7 miles of the Brevard County Shore Protection Project’s North Reach to counter erosion caused by Hurricane Sandy. GLDD will place approximately 1 million cubic yards of sand along the shoreline between Cheri Down Park in Cape Canaveral and Surf Road in Cocoa Beach (the Northern North Reach) and between 3rd Street North and the northern limit of Patrick AFB (the Southern North Reach). Work in the Northern North Reach began January 28, 2014, however due to equipment maintenance, sand placement is temporarily on hold. We estimate dredging operations will resume on February 24th. Work in the Southern North Reach is expected to begin around March 21, 2014. The sand will be dredged from Canaveral Shoals, an offshore borrow area located approximately six miles east of Cape Canaveral. All beach work will be completed by May 1, 2014. The remainder of the North Reach shoreline between Surf Road and 3rd Street North has remained stable and will not receive sand. Construction funding for the project is 100% federal. South Reach – Indialantic / Melbourne Beach

The sand will be dredged from Canaveral Shoals, an offshore borrow area located approximately six miles east of Port Canaveral. All work will be completed by May 1, 2014. Mid Reach – Satellite Beach / Indian Harbour Beach / Indialantic

In response to erosion caused by Hurricane Sandy, the Board of County Commissioners approved funding for a full scale dune restoration project in the 7.8 mile Mid Reach. The contract was awarded to J.P. Donovan Construction and sand placement began just south of Patrick AFB on December 2, 2013. It is estimated that construction between Patrick AFB and Pelican Beach Park will be completed by January 1, 2014 and construction from Pelican Beach Park to Flug Avenue, Indialantic will be completed by , February 7, 2014. Here is a picture showing where the sand is being pumped in. It clearly states the source- canaveral shoals.
Some area's are having it trucked in like at the end of pineada causeway.

I've MDed from Avalon Park, about 4 miles south of Vero Beach, to Cocoa beach over the past 3 years (during Jan and Feb). In general, sand replenishment in the area occurred about 2-3 yrs ago in the Vero beach area and Wabassco beach area. In 2013 and 2014 I saw replenishment underway south of Sebastian Inlet area (good Spanish artifact area). In 2014, saw replenishment completed in the Indialantic area and underway in Melbourne beach. At the end of Jan 2014, the sand replenishment was ongoing just south of downtown Melbourne beach and approaching where the Breakers Condos are located. The beach from the Breakers condos all the way south to Aquarina condo area seems very eroded and I imagine this beach area will also be replenished soon. In general, the replenished sand had provided very few finds and, specifically, nothing old - a clad coin or cents here and there. Very disappointing.

went to Paradise Beach Melbourne today--- had 3 feet of fresh muddy sand on the beach. still had tracks from the bulldozer.
found nothing old there.

I hunted Satellite beach about a month ago and it still seemed to be old sand. I even hit an old wheat penny and these beaches get hunted all the time.

Hello I just got a Tesoro Tiger Shark and im looking to detect underwater, can you tell me at what point im not allowed to be in the water? Newbie trying to learn the ropes also ive heard im allowed to detect in the river just not where there is sea-grass?? Thanks, Andrew
