Merc recovery pic and an unidentified critter???

Recovered a merc at an old farmhouse and while detecting found this green critter. I have never seen one before and neither has the farmer. It was a little over 4 inches in length and as big around as my thumb. Any ideas what it is

its a type of catapiller ( of some type of moth I think) I beleive that its a stinging type if I remember correctly so I would advise leaving it be / not touching it

It's the worm stage of the Swallowtail Butterfly. That ugly thing will turn into one pretty butterfly.

There are many differant variety of Swallowtails:Tiber,Black,Spice,Zebra and more and their catapillars all look differant.

Thats one ugly critter but one beautiful dime
