Mercedes Benz medal?????

OK gang my friend found two of these in the same hole both are the same. About the size of a silver dollar. Might be plated bronze or some other metal. They have a thin lip around the outside like it might have been secured in a bezel? Did many searches and can find plenty info on Rudolph and his life. But this award, token, commemorative, medal, ? One sure says Rudolph Caracciola 1901-1959
The other side says Mercedes Benz 3 Liter Supercharged

My guess a Rudolf Caracciola commemorative medal put out by MB. I had a type medal put out by Ford in 1934 to commemorate their 30 years and given at the Chicago Expo letting folks to know, they at Ford have a V8 engine. Yours I would think can't be any older the the 1959 date on it, so it's possible this was made for some event in time to commemorate the success of MB? and Caracciola's achievements with a MB. I can't find any other example of this medal with info about it. It does want to shed light on the concept of supercharged. It's made to get the word out about something MB wants you to check out. Being I can't find any others out there makes it rare to me.
