Well, the snow is melting at a tremendous rate as I type this, and even milder temps are expected in the following days, so it might be possible to hit the swamp, I mean woods, this coming weekend. If not, it will probably be awhile before I see any of you guys. Maybe we should set up that winter gathering at the Buffalo Wild Wings and just talk detecting for a while. I'd be willing to take on the Mr. Hot and Spicey persona, just because I think Kermit has paid his dues!

Have a great holiday season guys, I hope you all get upgrades or cool accessories.

Merry Christmas Joe!

I'm keeping my eye on the temps myself. We still might get one more shot before New Years.
A get together one of these days sounds good to me.
Keep in touch!

Thanks for the Christmas wishes, guys.

I am speechless, because I am the proud new owner of a Minelab Excalibur II! I love my girlfriend to death (not literally). I just received it and put it together and played around with it indoors. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow. So Bomber, Goio, and anyone else with the Excal, be prepared for a bombardment of questions and concerns!

Race you to the water!!!

Ah now you need some creekin' shoes and gear! Do you plan on just hunting the lake/beach or are you willing to get some real water work done?!?

Your sweetheart truly rocks!

Tim,

Have water, will travel. I figured any found gold, silver, or platinum jewelry would help to fund any future detecting equipment, to find what I'm really into finding- old coins. I will, however, use this anywhere I may find stuff, creeks, lakes, oceans, etc etc. I am really excited about it and and currently damning the winter season to the fire and brimstone of hell. what kinds of things are you finding in or around the creeks up your way?

Yes, my sweetheart does truly rock. I had a feeling she had gotten it for me but I always held my doubts, didn't want to overexcite myself. Big thanks to her, and also to the MAN, Ron Shore! I cannot stress it enough, he is the go-to man in the city for detectors and accessories. I'm looking forward to hitting the H2O June-September!

Joe

As you know I work the creeks and rivers out here. I have found two safes under a railroad trestle. One looked like it had been torched prior to being placed on the tracks. I think they believe the train will open the safe for them. The thing was opend and cleaned out long ago. The other one, a cylindrical type had the bottom cut off it. Found many coins, many more sinkers and assorted fishing gear though. Really just about anything you could imagine is there. Yep, including 2 caskets.

The excavation for the casino boats in Aurora yielded three safes (two unopened) and a cannon, per one of the guys working it. Haven't found any cannon yet, but still looking.

Grooup luncheon

Good thing you got that Excal, Joe, it might be the only thing you can hunt with tomorrow. A couple inches of rain on top of this snow (close to 3 foot deep drifts on most of my yard) and the drains will be clogged. We've got it piled up over the mailbox from the shoveling and plowing so there's gonna be a lot of melt water around the Lowbatts cave. Better get the buckets ready around Kermit's Fiendish Aquarium.

All for a group luncheon, we need to wait until Goio can get out of Indiana and T-Snowman gets back up here too. Pick a date! BWW (sans our waitress Mr. Sister) is good with me too.

Merry Christmas, Joe! - Even if I'm a day late... :-\ And Merry Christmas to all you other hunters, too! ;D

Looks like you had a GREAT Christmas! Yeah, that girlfriend of yours really does rock!

It amazes me that they can make these detectors waterproof and yet have all the outside controls that they do.

I hope you really clean up with your new machine!

Thanks Neil. You know, I've got to be honest, it's going to be strange walking into the surf for the first time with the detector. I'm looking it over and imagining all the ways water will find its way inside and ruin it, lol. All my life I've been told to keep things with batteries and power cords away from water, and here I'll be, submersing it. It's going to take a little while to get used to it. I hope I clean up too, but with all the water hunters out there, it won't be easy!

BTW- I'm still mostly a woods hunter, so you'll see more a lot more often searching the wilderness for old coins. I'll use the Excal during the hot summer months...less mosquitoes on the beach!

Joe
