Yesterday Curbdiggercarl & Seychik came down for a hunt (first time we all met ) I took them out to one of my favorite hidden spots, I'm pretty sure they had a good time leaving the hustle & noise of the city behind , to spend the day detecting with only the noise of birds & squirrels ,,,,, oh ,and me yelling when I hit silver :) I found the first coin ,a 1919 s wheatie , then found 2 more TJ Underhill Denver buttons , then while Carl and I were visiting ,Cindy yells out that she had found an 1895 Indian Head ( I took a pic of it but was rushing because the rain was starting to come down and it came out blurry ) Then not 30 mins later I hit an 1896 2 coin spill ,the 1896 Indian head came out first ,then rechecked the hole and got a solid quarter hit, and a few seconds later out came the 1896 O barber quarter , we all found a lot of trash and some small relics. Carl got skunked , well not really ,he did find an 1997 dime ,sorry Carl maybe I should not have let that info out :) Anyway I had fun detecting with new friends as 90% of the time I'm by myself, and can't wait till we all can get together again .

Nice digs and thanks for the pics

Some really nice finds. Looks like a good day. Thanks for sharing and happy hunting.

That's a cool coin spill! Must've been lost in the early 1900s. Wonder what the odds are of both being the same year...pretty small at that point

It's pretty cool when you dig something untouched for so many years. Kind of like a connection to the past...

Nice spill PPC.

Very nice ! Were you hunting near Colorado Springs ?

Very nice my man! Congrats.

That's a fantastic little pocket spill. Both of mine have been modern coins. The one was more like someone tossed a handful of change on the ground cause I found nearly $3.00 in change in a 3ft circle all right on or just under the surface. Now THAT would have been nice if the coins had been as old as yours.

Nice finds. Love the quarter

Great Hunt PPC, nice to meet you and your dog. Thanks for letting us in on your secret spot. That quarter is in fine shape and a key date too! Nice Wheatie and Indian. Carl really likes things with Denver on them, so I'm sure he was happy to see those buttons you pulled up. I like my souvenir Indian, a great reminder of our perfect weather and beautiful mountain hunt. Thanks again, I hope we hunt together again in the future. Cindy

PPC, I also wanted to show you the Union Brass Mfg Co, Chicago piece, compared to a picture off the web showing a rail road lock. Like you said, maybe the rest of the lock is there....
Cindy

It wasn't a 1997 dime, it was actually a 1997-D dime.
Minted in Denver, roughly 17 years ago.
Thought about posting a photo, but then it got mixed up with all my other clad, and I certainly didn't want to post the wrong coin.
(we also stopped at a dirt road on the way back from your site where I managed to dig nothing).
But in all seriousness, we had a blast hunting with you.
Great to get out of Denver, even better hunting with someone that enjoys this obsession as much as we do.
And you had some truly great bottle digging and detecting stories, nothing better to fuel us on.
You're good people.
And that's rarer than digging an 1896 pocket spill, any day.
It will be a honor to hunt with you again.
Carl
P.S. You didn't mention the sound you made when you dug those two finds, almost like you got a foot caught in a bear trap.
Real high-pitched-like.
Squealy.:laughing7:

Thanks to all for the replies ! Cindy ,Carl , Make sure to make time to get back a few times before the snow falls . It was a lot of fun ! Here is a couple pic's of my Indian after a warm water and baking soda bath the reverse has great patina. Carl , Wow !! you ratted me out , I'm sure glad you didn't see me do the "chicken dance" 8-)
