Metal Detecting along river banks

Hi, I am hoping to do some meteorite hunting, but I am from Missouri and I hear that my climate is not coducive to meteorites. I would think that hunting along river sandbars would be a place where they may collect over time, but can you actually find any in those areas ? Would they decay away into nothing before anyone could locate one ?

First thing to do is hit the library. Find out if there were any major meteorite falls in your area. These can be plotted on a map into certain areas. Most of the meteorite guys know where they are. Try asking some folks on meteorite sites where they might suggest hunting. 8)
