Metal Detecting collection

Recently I got the privilege of meeting my half sisters grandparents. Her grandfather was an avid Detectorist for decades. Long story short I've volunteered to help organize and identify what I can. Right now am overwhelmed at all the different tokens and medals. Ill try to update this with my discoveries as I go.

I have a couple of questions:

First are there any references that would be help me identify tokens and medals?

Second is that some of these finds are covered in crud and I dont want to destroy anything. I've heard for example that I can soak copper and brass in olive oil to loosen up the dirt and kill verdigris(I hope this is true as I've got about 10$ in wheatback and indian cents soaking now). Some of these finds are silver, aluminum, or other alloys.

Take care on cleaning coins. Rare/valuable coins can be damaged and reduced in value if not cleaned properly. Sometimes it's best not to clean them at all. You need to identify each coin first and then make an assessment whether it's something that should be cleaned or not. There's a whole section here on Tnet about cleaning and preserving finds.
