I'm 58, and I'm going to "meet the parents"

Girlfriend and I will be visiting her family this November for about 6 weeks in Lima Peru. We'll have a car and travel 6-8 hours inland to Cusco (macho pachu) for a week. Outside of that, I'll be in the Lima area perhaps staying a few nights an hour or two on the coast north and south of Lima. Does anyone have suggestions? Detecting, traveling, dining, do's, or don'ts? Thinking of shipping detector ahead. Starting my research now. Thought I'll ask g/f to place a call to the local officials. ((I only speak cajun! Lol)
