It's 85 degrees, sunny and calm, the water is gin clear and the surface is as smooth as glass. Through my polaroid sunglasses I can see my coil sweeping across the sand, a swirling trail of disturbed debris drifting in it's wake. A school of small minnows arrive on the scene and they start picking away at the fine powder and tiny debris and I pause a moment to watch them darting about, the scene reminds me of young school children being let out for recess. I have no idea what kind of fish they are, don't guess it matters, it's just a very cool sight to behold on such a beautiful day. A few moments later I'm on the move again.

So far this morning I've recovered a few clad coins, a few bits and pieces of iron, one old costume ring that's been partially eaten away, but I don't really care, the sun is warm on my shoulders and back and the cool water is comfortable around my lower half. Again I pause for a moment as a small turtle scurries across the bottom in front of me. I wonder what it's thinking? I wonder where it's been and I can only take a wild guess as to where it might be heading? Cute little guy, or female, how can one tell? It's just another neat sight, just another of the many reasons why I enjoy my hobby of choice. As I continue on my way I can see the sun light bouncing off the flat sand below me, the multiple colors of the scattered tiny rocks shining like an emerald forest. It's quiet out here, it's a feast for the eyes and senses, it's all too relaxing. "What is stress? Where did it go?" With each sweep of my search coil I create another snow globe of sorts, shake it up and watch it slowly settle, it's all way too neat, if not completely mesmerizing.

This is why I metal detect. Because I enjoy all these treasures.

Absolutely!!! I was thinking the same thing on the beach this morning.

I feel the same way. Everytime I go out I am amazed by what I see and not necessarily what I find.

When I was up north this past week we camped on this quiet little lake. One morning I pulled off my headphones just so I could listen to a pair of singing loons breaking the morning still. It was great, made my day right then and there.

Hello, Bigscoop That is so well written that it is like reading a book. Good job. Glad you enjoyed yourself. That really
is one of the benefits of detectin for those that are aware of the nature of things.

Thanks for sharing some of your adventure.

Sometimes when I'm out there, eyes checking out all the sights, I'll suddenly stop and ask myself, "Have I actually been listening for tones? Do I even have this thing turned on?" :laughing7:

I don't water hunt, but, working near a country air strip,I was starteled to see several cars with trailers arrive, usually I am all alone. As I watched ,hot air baloons were inflated , released and sailed away. The vehicles all left and having seen the show,,, I went back to detecting. All for free. Bob
