Metal Detecting Schools

Should I ask permission from the principle? I'm only going to hunt it, on the weekends whens school is not in session. Is generally schools public property or should I ask permission?

i go to schools on weekends when there is no school but here in oklahoma city they are putting up fences all around the schools and locking them up now ,no fence then i metal detect

A principle part of obtaining permission would be to talk to the principal.

i never have a problem detecting a school on weekends or during the summer, thats what my school taxes are for

I've never asked and never been told to stop. I go when kids aren't there.

Ditto what BosnMate said....no problems. I have also hunted our local college campus (400 acres) with no problems, and with "Campus Security" driving by me and waving.
