Metal detecting tours - England

Be careful on this, a member posted he'd been ripped off, $650 I think it was - might have been more. I guess he'd posted looking for a tour company and the "agent" (in England) then disappeared. I think it's on TNet somewhere...

Ok, thanks!

After reading that article, I would not make a downpayment.

I know several guys that go with History Hunts, and are always happy. They have a pretty long waiting list for hunts in the states, but I don't know about England.

I recall a tour group in the 70's and 80's that was written about in "Western and Eastern Treasure" magazine and the name "Jimmy Sierra Normandi" comes to mind but I could be wrong. I suggest you contact the folks at KellyCo Metal Detectors at 855-803-4366 and ask their opinion. I would trust them!

Hello from the UK!

I must confess Ive never been on an organised hunt here in the UK. I'd like to but they usually only last a day or two to my knowledge.
If you not looking for 'seeded' competitions or lots of other detectorists I would recommend just calling some camp sites around the uk area you wanna detect in and asking a few farmers if you can detect when your there? you might have to pay a nights stay but you could go to a hotel or B&B (''bed and breakfast'' is a cheap accommodation option in the UK) hotel or if your up for it camp too. If you have any success finding any willing farmers id be interested to know about it too actually...
If your winging it on your own make sure you get insurance before hand (letting the land owners sheep out can be costly).

With covid happening everything's on hold and at least this way all the lovely old coins and artefacts would be yours (and maybe the farmers). There is a particular way to get this in the UK as only one specialist licencing group I know of provides it.
Note however you cant search parks in the UK. Without express permission from a land owner or MD group with permission your relegated to the beach I'm afraid.

Hope this is helpful
