Looks art nouveau - 1890-1914. I think some sort of kitchen devise, like a mincer?? Something along those lines.

How about a cork puller for wine bottles?

That little doo-hickey is what is left of a wall hanging bracket for a kerosene glass lantern and the swivel part with the loop is for holding a reflector to increase the light from the light out into the room. Not sure of the age but it is a nice find and some of those reflectors were adapted for gas lights too. Then Edison put them out of business but you can still get them from specialty stores. HH

In my expert opinion I would have to agree with you on the fact that it is indeed a doohickey. just a guess though. good luck with the ID

When I first saw the photos, I thought a window or sash lock also.

Looks just like the upper window sash locks we had in the old high school had a cord or loop to them for a rope or pole and hook.

I tend towards it being either a window sash or a good-door-sit-stay dohickey-thingamabob-whatucalit-gismo. Or maybe a whatsit or even a simple thingy.

On the otherhand, we could all be full of baloney ;D
