🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Round Brass Thing with 3 Holes - What the heck?

I dug this thingamabob doohickey at a late 1800's house today. Its made of brass, and is about 2" across. All it has on it is "Pat Pend". I'm not sure who that is?
Any idea what this is? Plumbing? Car part?
Anyone want to give it a shot?

I can only think it was a vital component to some modern marvel of the 1930s or possibly before. Maybe an early washing machine part or at least that's my first hunch.

Looks like a connection for a pull start device. Maybe an old gas engine.
Oops! I missed the 2” statement. Kinda small for my idea.

Thanks to All for the guesses/input. Since we are all over the board I won't put "solved" until someone can post an actual photo I guess. It is an odd piece, thats for sure.

That's what I thought, too. But it seems small for that. It also doesn't look like the center would turn. It also seems unlikely that an electric motor part would be at an 1800's house site, though it's possible.

You are correct, the center doesn’t turn.
That threaded bolt piece is hollow in the center as you can see, and then there are the four small holes as shown.
Not sure what was supposed to pass through those openings? Air? Water? Oil? I wonder if there was a diaphragm of some sort on the inside?
Too bad there wasn’t a patent # on it instead of just patent pend.
I’m taking my 63 Mercury Comet in tomorrow to my mechanic. Maybe he will have an idea? Fingers crossed. 🤞

You may be on to something there. You are referring to one of these old glass bowl gas filters. I’m just trying to figure out how gas would go both in AND out through this piece?
