🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Metal work stamp??

On a early 1800s site I found this big lead piece. Not sure if it matters but I’ve also found a confederate buckle at this site. I’m pretty clueless as to what this would be used for, my father in law suggested some kind of stamp for metal work. It’s about 1 1/2 inches long and 3/4 inch width.

I don’t know anything about old clothing irons. We’re they made out of lead like this? And it’s small..unless you mean it’s a broken piece off a old iron maybe that’s possible

the old irons were called sad irons and were not made of lead . and were not that small .

Lead bar isn't? You'd melt it to cast bullets.

Yes it’s lead. So did people buy a bunch of these, then go home and make their own bullets?

no it's not an ingot , it's a part to something we just don't know what " yet"

Absolutely. Some still do today.

It’s super heavy for its size and not magnetic, it’s definitely lead

maybe because it was found with a metal detector 💡
