🔎 UNIDENTIFIED metallic rock type thingie? chunk of something? or might just be junk

hello all! i havent been out much given the winter weather but last month found this sort of unusual rock or chunk of something on the shores on the niagara river just upriver from niagara falls. ive been combing these shores a good portion of my 50 years but havent ever come across something that looked quite like it. it weighs about 4 oz. my intitial thought was that it was a chuck of iron but i have found many many pieces of beach iron in my day and this doesnt really resemble anything ive come across previously. it is slighty magnetic but not overly so in my opinion and the outer edges and points look blackened as if they have been burned. there is sort of a concave to one side of it and i at one point theorized maybe it was a fragment of something that had exploded but thats obviously just a wild guess. (we did have action in both the french indian war and war of 1812 near this area but no major skirmishes in this vicinity that im aware of, though there was a wartime shipbuilding operation directly across the river from where i found it and a couple of vessels were reportedly scuttled not far from it).
mostly im just hoping someone might have an idea as to what this might be or at the very least what can cause the blackened outer edges like that (it doesnt show as well in the photos as it does in "person" but hopefully the photos at least show the general idea.
