Vietnam War song Michael Blessing - otherwise known as Michael Nesmith from the group The Monkees - performed as a solo artist on this 1965 single. The track "The New Recruit" was a cover of the Tom Paxton satirical song "The Willing Conscript" about a draftee off to war, who wanted to learn how to kill in order to fulfill his duty.
