I still pick up cores I don’t always keep them unless they are special like this one. I wonder what they were doing with the tiny blades that came off of this one. It’s not only the smallest I’ve ever found but it’s the best example of a core. Notice the white cortex it has almost a cone look to it but I’m sure it’s too small to be a cone.

That's pretty unusual alright. As for the size, I've seen some really tiny points -- smaller than that -- that I always wonder how they managed to make them without just breaking them into pieces.

I’ve got a triangle I found that’s 1/2 inches long. My friend found one even smaller

That’s a cool one, does make you wonder, was it for micro blades, small points, maybe someone was just bored and was just whacking a used up core to see how small it could get

They used micro blades at cahokia for drilling shell beads. If you Google micro blades at cahokia you will see quite a few sites about making and using them.

That looks like a high quality piece of chert, Just like an exhausted blade that's been sharpened to be a mere shadow of itself, that could have been a rather larger core that many blades were struck from until there was nothing left.

Very true. I find the black chert with the tan cortex on tools and points. The white cortex chert hardly any. It feels very slick to the touch. Thanks
