So I found this little item tonight. Did not think any thing of it and put it in my bag. I remembered it had some kind of design on it and pulled it out before it got damaged. Got home, cleaned it up a little but could not make it out till I took a photo and zoomed in and look what I found...
I don't quiet know but I think this is some thing extremely old.

As others said, its it a printing plate. Looks like two people sitting back to back playing banjos. Cool find. You should get some Play Dough and make an impression.

Good suggestion. Either that or actually put some ink on it and use it as it was originally intended, rinsing the ink off afterward of course. Definitely a very interesting find although I have no idea of potential age. Sounds like you've got a pretty cool spot to hunt.

The other is a deer or mule deer stamp or seal (in my opinion)

Interesting find no doubt. Kind of a mysterious unknown factor.

They look like Jesters to me with the collars around their necks. Could be Mardi Gras related.

just wondering what is on the back, maybe a clue to how old it is as a printing plate could have been made for a machine or an even older manual printing press does it looked machined or handmade. The hat looks to be a jesters cap from the old renaissance paintings and I would not pass judgment saying that those are banjos either could be a style of lute matching the garb.



just to clarify I am in no way suggesting this is from the 14 or 1500's just trying to find clues as to what is on it.

I, too think they look like jesters but the instruments they play I'd say look like tambura (or tamboura)... Quite a mishmash of occidental-oriental imagery...

I see you got some ink on it but did you press it onto some paper ? I was hoping to see what it's supposed to look like. Since you've found 2 printing blocks in the same area you might want to do some more research and see if there was ever a pring shop at that location and when. Cool stuff !
