Tartar was a medium-range naval surface-to-air missile (General Dynamics RIM-24 Tartar) that first saw service with the US Navy in 1962. The flags are those of the other countries to whom it was also sold (including subsequent version improvements). Although the missile was replaced by RIM-66 Standard in 1967 it was still in use in the 1970s and some ships are still considered as ‘Tartar’ ships beyond that because they carry the Tartar Guided Missile Fire Control System, which is still in use
