New here, and rather new to metal detecting. This is the first thing I've found other than a few wheaties and a lot of new coins.
I live in Indy- found this in my back yard about 6" deep or so. I can't find even a hint of what it is or time period.

looks to be a piece of memorabilia for a parent with a child in the American armed forces(single star flag and the American flag)

When Parents lost a Son in WW 2 they would put signs in their windows with a Star. Maybe this item is a version of those Memorial's.

It looks to have been used as a watch fob.

Yes, they were called "Sons in Service"-- flag military insignia. It could be WW I since the patent date for this design of the crossed star(s) and US flags was Nov. of 1917.
