Hey everyone,
Yesterday I went wading down at the river close to my house, and found this milk bottle in it:

Turns out there was a whole mill complex on the river in 1852. I have the whole story in Today's Finds - Lost in the 1856 disaster if your interested.

I was thinking I might dig down in the sand deposits on the sides of the river and see what I find.

Nice find Kevlardini. Milks are collectible these days. Try probing in the sand and see what turns up

I just went back yesterday, and found a nice blob top, some old sodas, and even an acid bottle. I know there's more!

Here they are. Very nice embossed milk bottle from Athol, it actually came out that clean too! The bottle that says "Acid Line" on it looks to be early 1900's judging by the mold mark disappearing half way up the neck. Two soda bottles. A Cott beverages and Canada Dry. And the blob top. Has some mucky stuff on it, so it's soaking right now. I'm totally going back!

Nice bottles! What are you soaking the blob top in?

Right now I'm trying a vinegar-water solution, but this stuff on the bottle will not come off.

Any embossing on the blob? It's an older bottle than the rest. You need to search thoroughly where you found that one

The blob is blank, but has a circle on the front that looks like a label could have gone there. The thing is, I found it in the middle of the river. I saw the head poking out of the sand. I can't find any others. I don't know if they'd be buried under years of sand deposits, or if this was just one random bottle. I know there were mills on this river in 1852, but I have only been able to find part of a foundation of one. I went back today, and found two more soda bottles, but nothing spectacular. It's a really weird river, and whatever is there is hiding good.

Ok, the blob was probably a random "toss"

Use a mask, fins, snorkel, and gloves to search for a deeper hole where the sand has been excavated by the current. A bend in the river is a good place to look.

Search this forum for "cleaning bottles" to find lots of info on muck removal.
