I bought an X-Terra 70 about a month and a half ago. I stopped at Quartzsite, AZ for about an hour and did some detecting on a claim of a friend. It took me a about 20 minutes to find a nugget. I don't have a scale, but it was about the size of two large grains of rice at about 3" deep. I'm reading many great reports on the 70. People are finding a lot of gold with them. They may not punch down quite as deep as a dedicated PI machine, but for the price appear to be the best gold getting as well as all around detector on the market today. I've really taken a liking to mine. Very accurate on predicting targets and on giving you the info to know if it is a good target. The only place I have not tried it is on the beach, but reports are really good there also. People are finding a lot of gold chains, rings and even ear rings. It has great depth on the coins. If your looking in the 7 to 8 hundred dollar range, you can't go wrong with the X-Terra. Minelab really did their homework on this detector.

So glad you are enjoying the new machine! They are very popular, that is for sure! Thanks for sharing your experiences with it as well. Congrats on the great nugget....now where is the picture?? lol

While I do not hunt gold, I have to agree on the XT70, I have had nothing but good times with mine and although most is clad, its sounds off on all kind of targets.
Was getting cabin fever yesterday so decided to take it out in the little snow left in my yard just to get out, powered on, first swing, DIME. While digging in snow and dirt was not on my favorites list, recovered and called it quits until the ground gets,,,,"less soggy"
Congrats on the gold strike. JOe

lol less soggy is very good! Last night I sat and watched the video on the X-Terra 70.....they have it on Utube! :o I have heard different folks say that the 70 is not classified as a gold machine by Minelab and after seeing this post and watching the video Minelab put out on the machine I would have to say we were right in saying it is a good gold machine as well. I can't wait til I get to play with one some! :D

What am I missing here?
Everyone is tauting the new X-70! But, the machine is just plain ugly in my opinion. It won't even stand up! I want one of them but can't convince myself to fork over the $7-800.00 dollars needed to buy the two loop combo as is being advertised. I like my SE and will keep this one for eternity but, I am drawn to the hype of the new Xterra! :)

I am also drawn to this X-TERRA 70. Have only been detecting for 14 months now using my one and only DFX and I thought I will never buy another detector. That the DFX was king.

But I can't resist the X-70. I don't want the Explorer because I have tried my nephews and personal I wasn't impressed with it. Too heavy, didn't feel right, didn't like the screen, but that is why I bought the DFX anyway.

But I was at a local dealer 2 of weeks ago and he had the X-70 and it felt good- but can this machine find the good stuff. ???

It sure can! Take a look at the video on the machine if you are really interested and I think you will see what some of the hype is about! I know it is next on my list of detectors to get for sure!

The only thing I didnt like about the xterra 70 is when your on the beach, going from dry sand ( your in one setting for that) approaching wet sand, ( have to change settings again for the wet) and then change it again for when its in the shallow water.. Thats the only thing I didnt like about it..

I have the dvd video for the X-70

Thats what got me going on wanting to buy one.

Some much money though for a little box- but hey its only money

Money is pretty precious...always best to really consider it before parting with some. I can definitely relate there! I was really excited about the X-70 and even more so after seeing the video. What an incredible machine. Can't part with the money at the moment though...especially since we already have 3 machines! lol Will get one though...just a matter of time! ;D Did you check out the post in Dealer Classifieds on Minelabs I posted? Got a bit of incentive there...still best to make sure and think it through though!

I've had an x-70 for about a year now.At first I really liked it and found some nice things with it. BUT I have been having problems lately. For one it doesent perform very well in cold or damp conditions.By damp I mean in a light rain. The screen starts to go crazy and it starts chattering real bad.Yesterday I got fed up and swated it and the chattering stopped,so I'm thinking mabey something is lose inside ??? Also the depth reading's are way off and sometimes the pinpoint doesent work. The numbers change in pinpoint but there is no sound unless I hit the button several times.I'm really starting to think I should have gotten something else as I think the overall quality is lacking for the money I paid.

It sounds like there may be a problem with your 70. I would send it back to Minelab for a check up. I have not seen any other posts where people have been having problems with their 70 except for some of the first machines produced had a few problems with the springs in the battery compartment. I pretty sure that Minelab fixed that issue. I've had no problems with mine. I bought the 6" DD 18.75 khz coil and it's a killer in junky areas. My next coil will be the 10.5" 7.5 khz DD coil. People are raving about the depth and pinpoint ability of this coil on the 70. I love my 70 and would not trade it for anything else. I have a bad back and it's light weight makes it easy to swing for long periods of time. The 4 AA batteries seem as they will last forever. Minelab made one fine all around machine when they designed the X-Terra 70. Give this machine a hard look. I don't think you will find a better machine for the price. I also just read an article about the 70 being used at Gains Creek in Alaska. Seemed that everyone was rather envious of the people who had them. They were making better finds than the Whites machines as well as the PI machines.

Good hunting, John K
