Here's an odd piece, smaller than most andirons, (AA battery shown)
looks like the base pivoted on a ball, ends are not broken.
appears to be a curved stop piece protruding.
Anyone seen similar item?

may be a grate shaker for an old coal stove or coal burning fireplace

thanks Creskol,
looks like it would work for that purpose.
Will check that curved 'stop' piece for evidence of end break
note tiny slots cut below the two square cutouts on end.
they are at the very bottom of piece in 2nd pic
this is a tough one.
