Ok.... I found this piece of metal where an old home place existed dating in the mid 1800's. It was roughly 6 in. underground. I do not know what type of metal it is. I've heard lead, babbitt, etc..., but need confirmation. The weight is just like lead, but it seems a lot harder. Only could get one pic to upload. The dimensions are: 2"Lx1.5"Wx1"H. It is sloped on the sides. Would love to know what metal it might be and what it was used for. Please help!

Are you sure it isn't a piece of Hematite, Magnetite, or such?

Not sure. Would Magnitite or Hematite been used back in the 1800's?

They are metallic "rocks" (minerals) .. do a google image search for "Metallic Rocks" .. or "magnetite mineral" .. or "hematite mineral" etc and compare

It is not magnetic. When performing a magnet test, the magnet does not stick at all.

Either plumber's lead or for casting bullets or toy soldiers, etc. Monty
