This is from a known shell midden. I can't figure out what the effigy is. can't be a pig as the Spanish were not in South Alabama during this time(1200A.D.) and they introduced pigs. I thought a big bullfrog which is why the eyes are missing as they would be father out. Any ideas?

Neat piece. Looks human to me. Is it domed shaped, like it would be part of a jar?

I agree with bonepicker. Looks human to me as well.

I also agree with BP, the nose is to pronounced to be a bullfrog... JMO

Turtle effigy? That would explain the mouth shape and nostrils. And they weren’t introduced.

I also agree with human. Looks like a nose and mouth.

I agree, human

Very interesting piece! :occasion14:

Looks like this could turn into a scary movie always starts out with a mouth and a nose

Really cool find, if you post it to the Native American Section you might get more info.
