Hello, I'm new to the forum. Found this in Southport, NC on a newly cleared site. Also found a 1798 large cent within 25 feet, but there was also a 1940's house on the site.

Looks like it could have been a locket,... or something similar. Nice find, and welcome to the forum!

I do not believe this to be silver, it is an eyelet latch used on an purse is my thought.

Agree totally with Loco-Digger. Had a girfriend years ago that kept buying the same cheap purses and yours truly had to try and fix them when they broke a week later.

Everyone here is wrong... What this item actually is, is this: a small round metal circle with a hole in the center where a hooky-do-dabber went in, securing the opening of a ladies over the shoulder everything holder. :-)
