Decided after our success yesterday we would explore the bottom half of the field.
As the field has been drilled (planted) we only have this weekend until it sprouts & then its a no go.
When exploring a large ploughed field we use what I call 'leap frog' searching. That is we do a 8 run grid search, then miss 5 runs (leap frog over) & do another 8 run grid until we have covered the width of the field. Good way to find which places are worth doing in the future, whilst cover lots of land semi-systematically.
So having done this system to the top of the field & the bottom (no time for middle yet), we have narrow down the productive area which we will hit tomorrow.
Everything I seemed to find today was broken by the plough, including a Roman Silver Denarius.
Dad had the other 2 bits of silver, a Georgian hallmarked piece & William III sixpence no date (but 1690s)
2 Roman coins good enough for the album.
Good mix of buttons:
Lead medieval
Early 19th century Naval button
Pair of Livery type - 1 found by me & one by dad 50 meters apart.
Broken buckles & buckle plate
