Here is a picture of a 1983 Half Dollar I found in between some other non-silver half dollars. At first glance, it seemed obvious it was a silver. But now I'm wondering, is it fake? The mintmark of "P" on it is much smaller and almost looks like just a dot on the coin. I have a hunch it may have been painted as well.

Thoughts?

Yeah they made the P mintmarks smaller on the halves in those years than the more modern ones for some reason. And you'll notice many of the halves from the seventies and eighties have thicker edges too for some reason than most of the halves from the nineties to present. U mean the edge looks painted? Could be. It does kinda look white and silverfish in the pic. Well hopefully better luck next Saturday.

Date: Saturday - January 25th, 2014
Order: 3 boxes of Dimes

Result: 1 1946 Silver.

that edge was just painted silver to trick hunters, in 1983 no half dollar minted was silver. :)

In addition, I also found 7 more silver-painted half dollars. So frustrating when those come along because I get excited thinking they are really silver...

Well u got one good box at least. Strange u find so many silver edge painted halves.....maybe done by the same person. I don't find too many of those myself.

So did u get your dump bank figured out yet?

Yup, I decided to go with Chase. I went in there this morning and had someone assist me in creating a checking account. I explained I will be bringing in lots of coins to deposit and they said it was not a problem. As long as I maintain a required minimum amount in the account I incur no fees / charges.

Someone around my area is painting these halves silver and it should be waving some red flags out there somewhere.
