? ? ?By the looks of the YB on it. I'm inclined to think it's a one offing (only one made)? If there was more made, it's for sure no two were alike.? ? I'm no expert on this,(ask anybody) but I'm not seeing the look of age it should have, if from Civil War times.? I have no real Idea what it was for. But as a fun guess, I'm thinking a home made sampler bottle from a still of this century.? ? ? ?HH

shape really does not correspond with cival war era pottery(stoneware, clay, etc.)what it does look like is 20th.century"studio pottery"as mentioned in a reply an"one-off",no two would be alike, simmilar but not alike.one-off actually means one of a kind,so"one-off" may not be the word to use...anyway the main thing is what the owner said(and the beauty of collecting)"we love it" thats the main thing.i have items worth thousands of dollars&some not worth much but all are equally loved!very COOL pot you got there!

Looks like an early piece of American art pottery.Very cool!No info yet on the mark, are the letters superimposed(one on top the other)?

I agree it looks like a "studio" or "pottery class" piece with the scratched in initials but a better (lighting, contrast) pic of the bottom might be helpful in at least determining age. Look for a dirt colored wear ring on the bottom. The more wear and ground in dirt, generally the older the piece.
